Peer to peer migrant women empowerment

I am a role model for my family
The cultural differences between mothers and children are one of the most significant dynamics that mothers fleeing their home countries are often unaware of.
In the workshops, the mothers exchange ideas and discuss problems in their native languages and learn new approaches to raising their children without feeling helpless. Through these exchanges, they recognize that parenting styles in Germany differ from those in their home countries.
Many housewives feel isolated and demotivated due to the language barrier and their living situation in the shelter. This workshop enables these women to break down the barrier of isolation and integrate into society by learning the language and exploring what kind of training or further education they can pursue to gain employment.
Eighteen workshops were conducted, six workshops for each of the following languages: Somali, Farsi, and French.
Funded by the Steglitz-Zehlendorf District Office, Berlin.
